Fri. Feb. 7: Waingaro Water Slide

After leaving Hamilton and before going to Rotorua, we headed north a wee bit to the Waingaro Water Slide Park. It was waaaay off the beaten track, down a curvy road with no shoulders (like many New Zealand roads). It boasts itself as New Zealand’s longest water slide.

The entrance kiosk was a bit dodgy, and the woman running the entry booth left her car in the middle of the road to the parking lot. She had her wrist in a brace, and later got someone to move her car to a more visitor-friendly spot. Not that there were a lot of visitors. We were one of five vehicles in the parking lot.

Understandably, the water slides were not always on.

We started our visit in the big pool. We paced it out to be about 30 by 8 meters. At the most, there were seven other people in there with us. It was naturally heated, and a pleasant temperature. The pool in the foreground of this picture, with blue sides, was too hot for us.

Anita went down the slides a few times, we had a snack, and headed south to Rotorua. Our stop here was a welcome and relaxing diversion.
